The Denver Concert Band seats 80-90 players during the formal season (September through the end of April). We limit our roster to maintain musical balance. We also keep waiting lists, and will contact you if there is an opening.
We open some sections to new members during the Summer Season (from early May through late August).
If you are at least 18 years old, you may qualify for membership if an opening exists.
We rehearse Monday nights at the Lone Tree Arts Center (LTAC) at 10075 Commons St., Lone Tree, CO, 80124; one block south and one block east of the Lincoln and Yosemite intersection (immediately south of the Super Target parking lot).
Rehearsals run from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, with a short break at 8:30 pm. We generally do not rehearse on holidays and on Mondays following formal concerts.
The DCB does not conduct auditions for new members. A potential new member has an up to 4-week trial period when he/she can rehearse with the group. The first chair player, in coordination with the section manager and conductor shall be responsible for deciding whether the new member is capable of playing to the standards of the DCB. During the trial period, the new member must sit last chair, regardless of ability.
After passing the initial trial period, the new member is officially welcomed into the band.
Members are expected to have no other regular commitment on Monday nights.
Chair seating varies with each section, but is generally established by the first chair player in coordination with the section manager and conductor. Some sections rotate everybody after each concert to keep things interesting. Solos also can rotate.
The conductor usually selects soloists, and shall be the final authority for all seating and solos within the DCB.
All band members pay $75 yearly dues in September to help pay for the cost of the conductors’ salaries and rehearsal space rental.
Summer membership dues are $37.50.
